The initial focus of the new collaboration will center on expectant mothers. It will bring Horizon’s “Episodes of Care for Pregnancy and Delivery” protocols to UniversityHospital’s maternity care program.

The Episodes of Care for Pregnancy and Delivery program has proven highly effective at reducing the number of unnecessary C-sections, postpartum infections and complications.

Horizon BCBSNJ’s physicians, nurses and coordination team leaders will work with their counterparts at University Hospital to help improve outcomes and manage the full spectrum of maternity care, including prenatal, pregnancy, delivery and post-partum care. The teams will also collaborate to develop protocols for reducing the number of pre-term births at UniversityHospital.
