New Hanover Regional, Wilmington Health, BCBSNC Launch Accountable Care Alliance

New Hanover Regional Medical Center and multispecialty medical group practice Wilmington Health, both based in Wilmington, N.C., are launching an accountable care alliance with Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina.

The alliance is based on the accountable care organization model and will establish a pay-for-performance reimbursement model while promoting improved care quality and coordination. The three members will align resources and share information to improve patient experience and close care gaps.

The alliance will have four key focus areas: quality of care, patient satisfaction, access to care and affordability.

"By collectively focusing our efforts on coordinating care, we'll work to reduce costs while continuing to deliver the high-quality care that our residents throughout the region deserve," Jack Barto, NHRMC's president and CEO, said in the news release.

"With this physician-led model, we hope to improve the communication and coordination among NHRMC, BCBSNC and other providers in this region, all with a focus on continuing to provide high quality patient care," Jeff James, CEO of Wilmington Health, added in the release.

NHRMC or Wilmington Health patients who are insured by BCBSNC will be automatically included in the alliance, according to the release.
