CMS opens another round of Next Generation ACO applications

CMS has posted application materials for participation in the second performance year of the Next Generation Accountable Care Organization Model, which begins Jan. 1, 2017.

Currently, 20 ACOs are participating in the first performance year of the model, which began on Jan. 1, 2016. The number of participation awards in this round will be based on the level of interest and the available resources, CMS said.

For ACOs seeking to participate in the second performance year of the Next Generation program, there are two application rounds. The first portion of the application is due May 25, 2016 and the second portion is due June 3, 2016. This round of Next Generation ACOs will have an initial agreement term of two, one-year performance periods and the option to extend for up to two years.

For an overview of the application process, join CMS for Open Door Forum on March 22 from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. EST.
