A new report from Oliver Wyman, a consulting firm, has identified various obstacles that keep accountable care organizations from deploying technology.

The report made the following findings:

  • Cost of technology was an obstacle for ACOs in deploying electronic health record systems.

  • Achieving integration with systems and databases was an obstacle for ACOs in deploying a mobile health app.

  • Physician adoption was an obstacle for ACOs in deploying EHR systems and health information exchanges.

  • Data privacy constraints were an obstacle for ACOs in deploying health information exchanges.

  • Providing connectivity with an EHR was an obstacle for ACOs in deploying care coordination systems.
