For example, Patrick Soon-Shiong, founder of genome-based diagnostic and therapeutic company NantWorks, came in at No. 35 with a net worth of $12.3 billion. Thomas Frist Jr., cofounder of Nashville, Tenn.-based Hospital Corporation of America, landed at No. 54 with $8.7 billion.
According to Forbes, the bar was set higher than ever for individuals to be named to The 400, with the “price of entry” at $1.7 billion. Last year the bar was at $1.55 billion.
For the 22nd year in a row, Bill Gates, co-founder of Microsoft, is the richest person in America, with a net worth of $76 billion.
