Port Angeles, Wash.-based Olympic Medical Center and Seattle-based UW Medicine have signed a letter of intent to explore a possible affiliation.

The parties will next conduct a financial and operational assessment of the hospital to provide “an in-depth study of opportunities for growth and readiness for affiliation,” according to a Sept. 3 Olympic Medical Center news release.

“During this period of due diligence, we will focus on transparency, inclusive engagement, and mutual respect for our respective organizations’ governance and mission,” Olympic Medical Center said in the release. “By the end of this phase, our goal is to develop strategic and operational recommendations based on the financial and operational assessment, aiming to achieve shared alignment on a proposed affiliation model.”

Olympic Medical Center operates a 67-bed acute care hospital and several clinics.
