The venture capital arms of Pittsburgh-based UPMC and UChicago Medicine have invested in a healthcare AI startup as part of a $55 million series C funding round.
UPMC Enterprises and UCM Ventures backed Ultromics, which says it offers the first FDA-cleared, Medicare-reimbursed AI technology to aid in detecting cardiac amyloidosis and heart failure with preserved ejection fraction. The company developed the tool in collaboration with Rochester, Minn.-based Mayo Clinic.
Ultromics’ other health system partners include Cleveland-based University Hospitals and Chicago-based Northwestern Medicine. The startup says its platform helps hospitals cut unnecessary tests, enhance workflows and start treatments earlier.
