To determine the hardest-working cities in the U.S., WalletHub used data from the U.S. Census Bureau, the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the U.S. Travel Association, Gallup, the Social Science Research Council and the Corporation for National and Community Service to compare 116 of the most populated cities. Analysts evaluated direct work factors and indirect work factors using 11 metrics, which ranged from the employment rate to the share of workers with multiple jobs.
