UCF Health, the faculty practice arm of University of Central Florida’s College of Medicine in Orlando, provides services to the public at clinics in Lake Nona, Fla., and Orange County, Fla.
About 30 faculty physicians staff the clinic and offer primary care and services in such specialties as dermatology, gynecology and sports medicine.
But the clinics recently have been plagued by financial losses and staff turnover, according to the report. They lost $5.8 million during the 2016-17 fiscal year and another $6.8 million in the fiscal year that ended in June.
UCF Dean Deborah German told board members this week, “the faculty practice is essential to the success of the medical school,” and leaders are working on changes that will help stop the losses, the Orlando Sentinel reported.
The turnaround plan includes hiring consultants and replacing its financial and operational leaders. It also is using a new EHR,making employee compensation packages more competitive and eliminating orthopedic surgery at the two clinics that sustained the largest losses.
