The WHA and the University of Wisconsin-Cooperative Extension Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics Hospitals conducted the study on the economic impact of the state’s hospitals. They found hospitals employ more than 110,000 people throughout the state, with nearly nine out of every 10 counties having at least one hospital, according to the release.
In 2010, Wisconsin hospitals also provided $232 million in charity care and absorbed roughly $800 million in government program shortfalls.
