The New York State Department of Health approved the closure plans earlier this summer. However, the skilled nursing unit was not expected to close for another three weeks, the report states.
The television station reports all residents of the skilled nursing unit were moved to another facility, and nearly all 24 affected Carthage Area Hospital workers took other positions at the facility. The hospital has cited financial challenges as the primary reason for closing the unit.
