Mr. Sanders’ Medicare-for-all bill would eliminate all private payers and create a government-funded insurance system, not simply a buy-in option, though further details of the plan are still unknown.
In July, Ms. Harris said she supported a single-payer system in theory but needed more concrete information on the matter before she could fully back any legislation. However, during a town hall meeting in Oakland, Calif., she was adamant in her support for the bill.
“I intend to co-sponsor the ‘Medicare for All’ bill because it’s just the right thing to do,” Ms. Harris said. “It’s not just about what is morally and ethically right, it also makes sense just from a fiscal standpoint.”
