James E. Van Zandt VA Medical Center (Altoona, Pa.). James E. Van Zandt VA Medical Center has several sustainability and environmental programs. In addition to using local and sustainable foods to minimize its environmental impact, the VA medical center has a recycling rate of more than 60 percent and has put many energy conservation initiatives in place. In 2016, the hospital received the national Federal Green Challenge Award from the Environmental Protection Agency for its electronics recycling efforts. This year, the hospital received the Top 25 Environmental Excellence Award from Practice Greenhealth.
