Peter Pronovost, MD, PhD. Director of the Armstrong Institute for Patient Safety and Quality. Dr. Pronovost also serves as senior vice president for patient safety and quality at Baltimore-based Johns Hopkins Medicine in addition to his role at the Armstrong Institute. As the developer of a checklist protocol that virtually eliminated infections associated with central line catheters across the state of Michigan, saving 1,500 lives and $100 million every year, Dr. Pronovost is considered a world leader in the patient safety arena. He has authored more than 800 articles and chapters on patient safety and the evaluation of safety improvement efforts. In 2004, he was recognized with the John Eisenberg Patient Safety and Quality Award. In 2008, Dr. Pronovost was granted a coveted MacArthur Fellowship “genius grant.”.
