David W. Baker, MD. Inaugural Editor-in-Chief of The Joint Commission Journal on Quality and Patient Safety. 

In addition to his editor-in-chief role, Dr. Baker is the executive vice president for the Division of Healthcare Quality Evaluation at The Joint Commission, where he monitors the development of healthcare quality evaluation tools. Dr. Baker has published upward of 200 original research articles and has been the recipient of numerous honors, including the 2013 American College of Physicians’ Alvan R. Feinstein Memorial Award for research in clinical epidemiology. Dr. Baker has devoted much of his research to the examination of racial healthcare disparities and the adverse influence of language barriers on care quality. He helped develop the Test of Functional Health Literacy in Adults and has published extensively on the importance of health literacy.
