Shenandoah (Iowa) Medical Center. Shenandoah Medical Center got its start in 1911 with a $25,000 donation to construct a hospital. That hospital opened in 1918 as Hand Hospital, named after its benefactors, Catherine and Henry Hand. It would not become Shenandoah Medical Center until the 2000s. The hospital, located roughly 60 miles from Omaha, Neb., is a non-profit organization whose mission is to make a difference by providing exceptional patient care.
