Jim VanderSteeg. President and CEO of Covenant Health (Knoxville, Tenn.). In 2016, Mr. VanderSteeg took over as president and CEO of Covenant Health, a 10-hospital nonprofit health system. Upon becoming CEO of the health system, Mr. VanderSteeg led the effort to improve Covenant’s vision statement and create a new pledge of excellence. Mr. VanderSteeg headed the development of a personal communications initiative, inclusive of facility visits, letters to employees’ homes and video messages. Additionally, Mr. VanderSteeg enhanced physician communication via a physician advisory council. Forbes named Covenant Health to its “America’s Best Employers” list in 2016 and 2017.
