Chris Van Gorder. President and CEO of Scripps Health (San Diego). Mr. Van Gorder stepped into his leadership role at Scripps Health in 2000. When he became CEO, the health system was facing financial and moral obstacles; he implemented a transparent, co-management leadership style to streamline operations and boost workplace culture. Mr. Van Gorder has led the health system through growth, doubling its ambulatory locations and expanding its hospitals. He is charging ahead to ensure the $3.1 billion health system keeps pace with the transforming healthcare landscape, building a horizontal management structure to reduce patient care variation. In addition to his leadership at Scripps, Mr. Van Gorder maintains his status as a reserve assistant sheriff in the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department and is a licensed emergency medical technician.
