St. Joseph’s Healthcare System (Paterson, N.J.). St. Joseph’s Healthcare System is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year. The Sisters of Charity of Saint Elizabeth established the hospital now known as St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in September 1867, which treated 102 patients in its first year; now the Catholic health system includes three hospitals that care for more than 1.5 million patients annually. Thirty-one of the hospital’s nurses received a 2016 National Excellence Award nomination, and six received the award. The health system is committed to community outreach and last year participated in several events, such as the Health Partners Breast Cancer Awareness Walk. Employees at the hospital have access to several benefits, including wellness programs for physical and emotional support, nutritional programs and routine vaccinations.
