Michael C. Tarwater. CEO of Carolinas HealthCare System (Charlotte, N.C.). As President and CEO of Carolinas HealthCare System, Mr. Tarwater oversees 60,000 employees, 39 hospitals and more than 900 care locations representing the full continuum of care--from primary care and home health to trauma and specialty care. During his tenure, he recognized community health needs in the areas of pediatric care, cancer care and behavioral healthcare and then led the establishment of landmark clinical services, including Levine Children’s Hospital, Levine Cancer Institute and the Mindy Ellen Levine Behavioral Health Center. After 35 years with Carolinas HealthCare System, Mr. Tarwater plans to retire in 2016.
