Julie Ann Freischlag, MD. CEO of Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center (Winston-Salem, N.C.). Dr. Freischlag joined Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center as CEO in April 2017. She previously served as vice chancellor for human health sciences and dean of Sacramento, Calif.-based UC Davis School of Medicine, and surgeon-in-chief of Baltimore-based Johns Hopkins. In her current role, Dr. Freischlag oversees the 1,004-bed Wake Forest Baptist’s academic health system with an operating budget of $2.5 billion. A vascular surgeon by training, Dr. Freischlag is a past president of the Society for Vascular Surgery and Society for Vascular Surgery Foundation. She also served as editor of JAMA Surgery from 2005 to 2014 and remains on the editorial boards of Annals of Vascular Surgery and the Journal of the American College of Surgeons. She was elected to the National Academy of Medicine, previously known as the Institute of Medicine, in 2015.
