James R. Downing, MD. President and CEO of St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital (Memphis, Tenn.). Dr. Downing became president and CEO of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in July 2014 after dedicating more than 20 years to advancing treatments for pediatric cancer as a clinician. In addition to leading the hospital, Dr. Downing serves as director of its molecular pathology laboratory and as the Donald Pinkel Chair of Childhood Ca4ncer Treatment at St. Jude’s. In 2016, he was appointed to the Blue Ribbon Panel for former Vice President Joe Biden’s National Cancer Moonshoot Initiative, and in 2017 he won the Society of Memorial Sloan Kettering Prize honoring contributions to pediatric oncology.
