University Hospitals (Cleveland). Opened as a single hospital in 1866, University Hospitals has since grown to include 18 hospitals, 40 health centers and more than 25,000 employees and more than 4,700 total providers. The system includes a 1,032-bed tertiary medical center affiliated with Case Western Reserve University, a children’s hospital, the University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center and the University Hospitals MacDonald Women’s Hospital. The system’s physicians and surgeons perform more than 4.5 million outpatient procedures and the health system reports almost 63,000 inpatient discharges annually. This year, the Ethisphere Institute named UH a global leader in ethical business practices for the fifth time since 2012.
