Shafiq Rab, MD. CIO of Rush University Medical Center (Chicago). Rush University Medical Center named Dr. Rab senior vice president and CIO in December 2016, and he officially assumed the position on Jan. 9, 2017. Prior to joining Rush, Dr. Rab was senior vice president of IT and CIO of Hackensack (N.J.) University Health Network, using technology to support the hospital’s growth from 775 beds into a 3,500-patient-bed health system. During his time at Hackensack, Dr. Rab was also a pioneer in mobile healthcare technology, developing a direct patient access app that allows patients to schedule appointments, view test results and prescription information, and communicate with their physicians from any device.
