Gary Barnes. Senior Vice President and CIO of Medical Center Health System (Odessa, Texas). Prior to joining Medical Center Health Systems, Mr. Barnes was a systems analyst at IBM with experience in IT. Medical Center Health System named him senior vice president and CIO in 2015 after he spent nearly 30 years with the system. In 2017, Mr. Barnes led the implementation of a new EHR, which earned the 2017 CHIME-AHA Transformational Leadership Award — an honor given to the hospital CEO and CIO whose strong partnership resulted in IT efforts to change healthcare delivery. The project met its go-live date under budget, and the system has experienced improvement in report turnaround time and reduced costs.
