James R. Downing, MD. President and CEO of St. Jude’s Research Hospital (Memphis, Tenn.). Dr. Downing was appointed president and CEO of St. Jude’s in July 2014. Prior to this role, he served as deputy director, executive vice president and scientific director of the hospital. He was instrumental in launching the Pediatric Cancer Genome Project and has dedicated more than two decades to making St. Jude’s a global leader in childhood cancer treatment. He was elected to the Institute of Medicine in 2013, received the Association for Molecular Pathology Award for Excellence in Molecular Diagnostics and was a finalist on TIME magazine’s 100 most influential people in the world in 2013.
