El Camino Hospital’s Norma Melchor Heart & Vascular Institute exceeds national hospital averages for six cardiac quality measures, including percutaneous coronary intervention, emergency heart attack treatment and coronary artery bypass grafting. In 2016, the institute received a three-star rating from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons National Database for outcomes in aortic valve replacement and coronary artery bypass grafting, placing El Camino Hospital among the top 5 percent of hospitals in the U.S. for these procedures. In 2017, the hospital also earned the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines Stroke Gold Plus award, and Blue Cross Blue Shield Association designated El Camino a Blue Distinction Center+ for cardiac care.
