Texas Heart Institute at Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center (Houston). Founded in 1962, the Texas Heart Institute, with its clinical partner CHI St. Luke’s Health-Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center, has been named one of U.S. News & World Report’s top cardiovascular centers for 25 years. In the 2015-16 listing, it was named among the top 20 hospitals in the country for cardiology and heart surgery. The nonprofit heart organization was founded in 1962 by renowned surgeon Denton Cooley, MD, who still, at age 94, serves as president emeritus of the organization. In its 53rd year, Texas Heart finalized a partnership with CHI, which also launched a joint venture with Baylor to house the heart center in its new medical center. This agreement marks what the organization calls a “dramatic expansion” of CHI St. Luke’s research affiliation with Texas Heart, and emphasizes research and education.
