Roswell Park Cancer Institute (Buffalo, N.Y.). The Roswell Park Cancer Institute, considered a revolutionary model of a multidisciplinary approach to cancer, was founded in 1898 as the nation’s first cancer center. Roswell is now a National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center and ranked in the top 50 in the nation for cancer care by U.S. News & World Report for 2015-16. The 133-bed hospital had nearly 4,500 admissions in fiscal year 2014 and had roughly 201,500 outpatient visits as well.
