Hoag (Newport Beach, Calif.). Hoag, a three-hospital health system with membership in the St. Joseph Hoag Health Alliance, supports a comprehensive neurosurgery spine program with 16 physician leaders who oversee a variety of related services. In 2016, the health system’s Hoag Orthopedic Institute reported 1,171 inpatient spine surgeries with the average length of stay hitting 2.2 days, while Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian reported an average length of stay at 4.1 days and major complication rate of 3.5 percent. In February 2016, Hoag Memorial became the first hospital in Orange County to use 3-D simulation software to assist in brain surgeries and plans to open California’s first spinal robotics program in early 2018.
