Novant Health Charlotte (N.C.) Orthopedic Hospital. The 80-bed Novant Health Charlotte Orthopedic Hospital is a department of Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center. Originally opened in 1971 as an extended care facility, the hospital was transformed into an orthopedics specialty facility in 1976 that has continued to grow, opening its most recent expansion in October. The health system added a third story and 32 additional patient rooms in the expansion, which took just under three years to complete. Novant Health plans to renovate another 85,000 square feet of existing space to become a new outpatient orthopedic surgery center that will open next year. On average, Charlotte Orthopedic Hospital physicians perform 4,000 outpatient and 3,000 inpatient procedures annually. Last year, physicians at Charlotte Orthopedic Hospital performed 7,481 surgical cases.
