Mayo Clinic (Rochester, Minn.). The orthopedic service line at Mayo Clinic's Rochester campus features 53 clinicians and seven scientists. In 2007, the health system opened the W. Hall Wendel Jr. Musculoskeletal Center, a 245,000-square-foot facility with 57 exam rooms and an outpatient surgical procedure center. In addition to providing quality orthopedic care, Mayo's clinicians and researchers are focused on advancing the field. With 34 open clinical trials, the orthopedic department actively pursues research, achieving approximately $10.4 million in research funding last year. The health system includes seven research laboratories and two institutional core facilities — bone histomorphometry and biomechanics — as well as a clinical/research integrated gait lab.
