University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics boasts status as the first hospital in the U.S. to provide patients with a multidisciplinary approach to treating uterine fibroids. In 1987, the hospital established Iowa's first in vitro fertilization program, and it still offers the state's only Level IV NICU. For pregnancy care, the hospital's prenatal services include midwifery, prenatal genetics and a monthly assessment, pregnancy education, and a peer support program called CenteringPregnancy.
