Mercy Hospital St. Louis. Mercy Health’s history of serving women can be traced back nearly 200 years to when Catherine McAuley — the founder of the Sisters of Mercy — opened the first House of Mercy in Dublin, Ireland, to teach skills to poor women and educate children. In fiscal year 2016, clinicians at the hospital’s birthing center oversaw more than 9,000 births. Mercy Hospital St. Louis also includes the Mercy Breast Center devoted to diagnosing and treating breast cancers and disease. The American College of Radiology-accredited center for mammography earned accreditation from the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers. For 2018, CareChex named this 787-bed hospital the No. 1 hospital in the nation for women’s healthcare in the medical excellence category.
