Roswell Park Cancer Institute (Buffalo, N.Y.). Founded in 1898, Roswell Park Cancer Institute was the first institution in the world to focus exclusively on cancer research. Dr. Roswell Park — the institute’s founder — accurately predicted that cancer would become a leading cause of death in the United States and across the world. The institute is one of the oldest in the country to earn designation from the National Cancer Institute as a Comprehensive Cancer Center, and it is one of five centers in New York to receive designation from Blue Cross Blue Shield as a Blue Distinction Center for Complex & Rare cancers.
