Steven Shapiro, MD. Executive Vice President and Chief Medical and Scientific Officer of UPMC. Prior to being named chief medical and scientific officer of UPMC in 2010, Dr. Shapiro was a professor and chair of the system’s department of medicine. Before joining UPMC, he was a professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School in Cambridge, Mass., and chief of the division of pulmonary and critical care at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. Dr. Shapiro served on the advisory committee on the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute and is currently a member of the Food and Drug Administration’s Pulmonary-Allergy Drugs Advisory Committee.
