St. Clair Hospital (Pittsburgh). This 328-bed independent hospital serves more than half a million residents throughout southwestern Pennsylvania. It opened its doors in 1954 and has received several awards and accolades over its history. This year, for instance, it received the Patient Safety Excellence Award and the Outstanding Patient Experience Award from Healthgrades. St. Clair Hospital has also earned straight As in the Leapfrog Group’s Hospital Safety Score since 2013, most recently this spring.
