Rio Grande Valley Health Alliance (McAllen, Texas). In 2011, Luis Delgado Jr., MD, attended the Annual Assembly of the American Academy of Family Physicians, where he heard a presentation on ACOs by Julian “Bo” Bobbitt Jr. After the conference, Dr. Delgado called up six other independent physicians, whom he convinced to form an ACO: Rio Grande Valley Health Alliance. Now part of the Medicare Shared Savings Program, RGVHA has 17 primary care physicians and earned $8.7 million in shared savings in 2014.
