The healthcare union is in the midst of contract negotiations with the League of Voluntary Hospitals and Homes, an employer group that represents 109 private hospitals, nursing homes and other clinics in the area that acts as the bargaining agents in labor contracts.
According to the union, the current proposed contract would change caregivers’ health benefits, resulting in cuts to 55,000 lower-wage workers. The master contract is set to expire July 15, according to the union.
The informational pickets are not a strike and union members “do not seek to have anyone stop work, refuse to deliver goods or otherwise cease business with any employer,” a news release states.
