Hospitals add nearly 16k jobs in July

The healthcare industry contributed 27,900 of the overall 215,000 new jobs that were added in the U.S. last month, according to the most recent jobs report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. 

This is a huge decrease from June's numbers, when healthcare added 40,100 jobs. Over the past year, healthcare has added 436,000 jobs to the U.S. economy.

Within the healthcare industry, hospital employment grew most in July by 15,700 jobs. The ambulatory healthcare services sector was next, with 8,900 jobs. Most of those came from physician offices (4,500), but outpatient care centers (1,700) and home healthcare services (3,400) also contributed.

Nursing and residential care facilities added 3,300 jobs last month.
