UPS contributes to Trump's inauguration after avoiding RNC donation

After withholding financial support from President-elect Donald Trump during last summer's Republican National Convention, United Parcel Service — along with several other major corporations — contributed to Mr. Trump's inaugural committee, reports The Wall Street Journal.

UPS, Wal-Mart and Coca-Cola were several of the companies that either opted out of donating, or lowered their donations, to the RNC last year. However, all three companies donated to Trump's inauguration committee, which raised a record $90 million to fund Friday's parade and concert, along with other weekend festivities. The figure far surpasses the $44 million President Barack Obama's committee raised in 2013 and the $53 million in 2009, reports WSJ.

While a UPS spokesperson declined to say how much money the company donated, Wal-Mart reported a $150,000 donation, according to its spokesman Greg Hitt. Coca-Cola said its donation was "in line" with the $430,000 it gave to President Obama's inauguration in 2013.

Major contributors will receive prime placement of their names or company names on "select printed materials," according to a list of donor benefits viewed by WSJ. Donors who gave $500,000 or more also received tickets to attend a "candlelight dinner" with Mr. Trump, his wife Melania, Vice President-elect Mike Pence and his wife, Karen.
