5 latest FDA approvals

Here are the five latest drugs or medical devices approved by the Food and Drug Administration. 

  1. Tucscon, Ariz.-based Ventana developed the Ventana PD-L1 Assay to gauge a patient's expected responsiveness to immunotherapy treatments.

  1. Baserl, Switzerland-based Roche's cobas MPX test detects HIV-1 and HIV-2, hepatitis B virus and hepatitis C virus in blood donations.

  1. Norcross, Ga.-based Immucor's PreciseType HEA test to screen blood donations for signs of sickle cell disease.

  1. Kenilworth, N.J.-based Merck's cancer drug Keytruda can now be used as an initial treatment for patients with lung cancer.

  1. Dublin-based Medtronic developed the CoreValve Evolut R 34 mm valve, a transcatheter aortic valve replacement system.
