CMS to host webinar on overall hospital star ratings methodology

CMS is hosting a 90-minute webinar Thursday to explain the process behind the agency's star summary ratings for individual hospitals.

After the presentation, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the Overall Star Rating methodology
  • Recognize changes made to the July 2016 Preview Report
  • Access the Overall Star Rating SAS Pack and supporting materials.

CMS pushed back the release of its overall star ratings to July from April, after controversy and pushback from stakeholders over the program's methodology.

The webinar presenters include Pierre Yong, acting director of quality measurement and value-based incentives group of CMS' Center for Clinical Standards and Quality; Arjun Venkatesh, MD, assistant professor and director of quality and safety research and strategy of New Haven, Conn.-based Yale University School of Medicine's Department of Emergency Medicine; and Kristie Baus, RN, a technical advisor for CMS and the technical lead of the Hospital Compare website.

The presentation will begin at 1 p.m. EDT. To register for the webinar, click here.
