Association for Patient Experience announces 2 award recipients

The Association for Patient Experience has announced the winners of two awards: Practice of the Year Award, recognizing improvements or innovations that enhance patient experience or promote best practice development, and Outstanding Caregiver Award, given to a caregiver who goes above and beyond for the patient.

The Practice of the Year Award was given to National University Hospital in Singapore. The hospital introduced a structured nurse rounding program in 2013 to reduce the use of nurse call lights. It increased nurse rounding by attending to patients every two hours, and the program led to a 30 percent decrease in call light frequency per patient per day.

The Outstanding Caregiver Award this year was given to Mary Beth Modic, DNP, RN, a clinical nurse specialist for inpatient diabetes at Cleveland Clinic. She also works in the Center for Excellence in Healthcare Communication. Dr. Modic has more than 30 years of experience in nursing practice and led the curriculum revision for the Cleveland Clinic Diabetes Self-Management Education program, based on extensive patient feedback.
