UnitedHealthcare pays out $148M in quality bonuses to 1.9k physicians

Minnetonka, Minn.-based UnitedHealthcare awarded $148 million in quality of care bonuses to more than 1,900 physicians who hit specific performance measures while treating Medicare Advantage members.

The 2015 PATH Excellence in Patient Service Awards were given to physicians who achieved or exceeded CMS specific Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set measures.

UnitedHealthcare evaluated physicians on several measures, including the percentage of Medicare Advantage patients they treated who received breast cancer or colorectal screenings, the percentage of diabetic members who received eye exams and the percentage of members who received physical activity advice.

UnitedHealthcare developed the PATH program in 2013 and has since paid participating physicians more than $213 million in bonuses.
