Todd Graham, MD, was walking between buildings at the medical campus when he was approached by the shooter, who fired multiple times before speeding off. Dr. Graham was pronounced dead when emergency responders arrived to the scene.
The suspect, whose identity is currently being withheld by the St. Joseph County Metro Homicide Unit, was later found dead as a result of a suspected suicide. The suspect and Dr. Graham knew each other, but the nature of their relationship is still unclear. The police say that the two men had an encounter earlier in the day.
Patients who knew Dr. Graham left comments about him on the South Bend Tribune website mourning his death. Dr. Graham specialized in physical medicine and rehabilitation at South Bend Orthopaedics.
“Dr. Graham saved me,” one patient wrote. “What a fantastic person he was. One whom I will never forget.”
