St. John's Hospital in Illinois to Lay Off 43 Managers

St. John's Hospital in Springfield, Ill., is eliminating 43 management positions, according to a State Journal-Register report.

The job cuts are a combination of immediate layoffs and decisions to not fill vacant positions or replace retiring employees, President and CEO Charles Lucore, MD, told the SJR.

Dr. Lucore said the reductions affect all levels of management, but he did not provide further detail on how much money the cuts will save the hospital. He attributed the changes to "financial pressures," according the report.

The 43 positions are about 1 percent of the 3,100 employees at the Catholic 439-bed St. John's. Dr. Lucore said the hospital is continuing its recruitment of nurses and other clinical workers, according to the report.
