MaineGeneral Health to Eliminate 128 Jobs

MaineGeneral Health in Augusta, Maine, plans to lay off 16 workers and cut 112 empty full-time positions this summer, according to a Kennebec Journal report.

Two of the positions are directly involved in patient care, according to the report, and several manager positions will be eliminated.

MaineGeneral recently opened a new hospital, the Alfond Center for Health, which is overstaffed. That, combined with reduced reimbursements from Medicare and other factors, led to the need for layoffs, according to the report.
