7 recent hospital transactions and partnerships

The following healthcare mergers, acquisitions and general partnerships took place or were announced in the past week.

1. Ministry Door County Medical Center, Hospital Sisters Health System pursue formal partnership
Ministry Door County Medical Center in Sturgeon Bay, Wis., and Green Bay, Wis.-based Hospital Sisters Health System will enter into a minority interest affiliation that will permit the two organizations to work as partners.

2. Baylor Scott & White acquires Lakeway Regional Medical Center
Dallas-based Baylor Scott & White Health acquired the operations of 106-bed Lakeway (Texas) Regional Medical Center, which has faced financial challenges since it was founded in 2012.

3. Jefferson, Aria Health systems officially merge
Philadelphia-based Jefferson, which includes Thomas Jefferson University and Jefferson Health, closed on a joint venture with Aria Health in Philadelphia.

4. Erlanger joins Vanderbilt Health Affiliated Network
Chattanooga, Tenn.-based Erlanger Health System and Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, Tenn., inked a strategic affiliation agreement, and Erlanger is also joining the Vanderbilt Affiliated Network.

5. Providence Health & Services, St. Joseph Health officially merge|
Renton, Wash.-based Providence Health & Services and Irvine, Calif.-based St. Joseph Health officially joined forces to create Providence St. Joseph Health, a nonprofit health and social services system that will serve as the parent organization for more than 100,000 caregivers across seven states.

6. Capella, Regional Care spinoff RCCH Healthcare Partners strikes first JV
Nashville, Tenn.-based RCCH Healthcare Partners closed on a joint venture with Saline Memorial Hospital in Benton, Ark. RCCH Healthcare is comprised of Brentwood, Tenn.-based Regional Care Hospital Partners and Franklin, Tenn.-based Capella Healthcare.

7. NYU Langone, Winthrop-University Hospital to begin merger talks
Manhattan, N.Y.-based NYU Langone Medical Center and Winthrop-University Hospital in Mineola, N.Y., signed a letter of intent to discuss the possibility of forming a healthcare network.
