What Hillary Clinton said to home healthcare workers

While campaigning in Los Angeles August 6, Hillary Clinton told home healthcare workers that she wants to improve their wages, working conditions and training, according to the Los Angeles Times.

As part of a roundtable at Los Angeles Trade Technical College, Ms. Clinton met with eight women, all of whom had worked in home healthcare or hired someone for care-giving. The women discussed their lack of training, benefits and sick time, as well as low wages.

When many of the workers told Ms. Clinton they make $8 an hour, she said raising the minimum wage is a key part of her campaign.

Ms. Clinton also said an increased use of home healthcare workers can help people to stay out of nursing homes, thereby save Medicaid money.

"We should be putting more money in the front-end to keep more people at home, to give more people a reason to live and a reason to get up in the morning and a reason to have that smile on their face," Ms. Clinton said. "I'm hoping that this issue of care-giving will rise higher on the national agenda."
